NWESD 189 is at the forefront of planning early-learning education, tools and strategies to support professionals involved in providing educational opportunities for all birth-to-5 children and their families in the five-county northwestern region of the state.
Through various grants including a funding source from the Early Learning Opportunity Act, the district Early Childhood Education Program has so far been a huge success, according to Early Childhood Education Manager Margy Miller, who administers the program in Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, Island and San Juan counties. NWESD 189 has been highly successful in assisting school leaders research ways of improving student improvement through school-based study teams, according to Linda Dobbs, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning.
“The old adage, ‘If you continue to do what you’ve always done, you’ll continue to get what you’ve always gotten,” points to the importance of the research stage of school-improvement planning,” says Dobbs, a leading facilitator with the NWESD’s School Improvement Planning Technical Assistant Project (SIPTAP). Dr. Bill Prenevost
Monroe Public Schools Superintendent Bill Prenevost is retiring after an illustrious 37-year career in the same school district.
“We were fortunate to have Dr. Prenevost with us for so long,” says Tom MacIntyre, Monroe School Board President. “His vision and history have provided our community with a successful and stable public school system.” Read more.
Spec. Carol Johanson
Carol Johanson, a third-grade teacher in the Everett School District, recently received a major award. No, not an educational honor — a military award.
Johanson, who teaches at Cedar Wood Elementary in Bothell, is also a U.S. Air Force Reservist and the award she earned as an Administrative Specialist with the 446th Maintenance Group at McChord AFB was Senior Maintenance Technician of the Year. Read more.
